Tinnitus, ringing or buzzing sounds in the ear, has been affecting humans for thousands of years, and as long as people have been experiencing this odd auditory trouble, others have been trying to cure it. Some of the strange tinnitus treatments offered include pouring rose extract into the ear, filling the ear canal with earth worms boiled in goose grease, and strapping hot loaves of bread to the ears. Today, our understanding of tinnitus is a little more advanced, and hopefully, the available treatments are too.

As we move through life, most of us can’t help but notice changes in our body and often, consequently, our heath. But did you know that changes are happening in the mouth, too? Naturally, these can affect a person’s oral health. Therefore, proper dental hygiene at home combined with professional care is vitally important for seniors. The office of Dr. Shiloh Lindsey in Ft. Collins, CO, is proud to include caring general dentistry designed especially for adults and senior citizens.
As people age, normal dental concerns may become more pronounced. For instance, seniors are more prone to periodontal disease (gum disease). This may be due to a lifetime of poor dental hygiene, ill-fitting oral appliances, or diseases such as cancer or diabetes. Also, teeth’s supporting bone structure is more likely to shift as we grow older, making an uneven bite or tooth loss more likely. Other conditions that may develop include inflamed gum tissue, dry mouth or oral thrush.
The most important step in preventing these oral health concerns is regular check-ups with Dr. Lindsey. She and her staff will not only clean and polish your teeth, but at the time of your check-up they’ll also examine your mouth for the early signs of gum disease, conduct a cancer screening procedure, check for tooth decay and, if necessary, take x-rays in order to see decay that would otherwise not be visible to the naked eye. Dr. Lindsey can also offer suggestions to make seniors’ dental hygiene routines at home more convenient. For example, for people with limited manual dexterity due to arthritis, there are specially designed toothbrushes with larger handles that are easier for seniors to grasp.
If you or a senior citizen you care for is due for a visit to the dentist, call the office of Dr. Shiloh Lindsey in Ft. Collins, CO, today. We can take care of all of your general and preventive dentistry needs. Our office conveniently serves patients in Greeley, Longmont, Windsor, Loveland and the surrounding communities.

We agree with the American Dental Association, saying that you should see your dentist at least twice a year to make sure your smile is in tip top shape. Having your bi-yearly checkups lets us check and be sure everything in your mouth is going smoothly and working in tandem. Though many people believe they don not have to see the dentist unless something is wrong, Dr. Shiloh Lindsey wants to ensure your mouth is as healthy as it can be, not just when there is an issue, but even in its best best condition! One way she does this is by taking care of your dental checkups.
It is very difficult to accurately portray the importance of your dental checkup. When you come in for your appointment with Dr. Lindsey, she will take her time to inspect your mouth at length, leaving nothing kept in the dark. She will look at your gums and other soft tissue, looking for any early signs of gum disease or oral cancer and, if finding any, will take care of it immediately. Dr. Lindsey will also look at each and every tooth in your smile, searching for any cracks, cavities, and other abnormalities that could prevent you from having a healthy smile. She will also be able to replace any previous dental work you may have had, such as fillings, inlays, onlays, etcetera, with tooth-colored options.
The reason why dental checkups are so important is because it has the capacity to tackle and prevent problems before they get more serious down the road. What may appear to be a little discomfort now has the potential to lead to you needing a root canal. It is important to make sure whatever complications you have now regarding your smile are taken care of as soon as possible at your checkup. By doing this, you can save yourself unnecessary pain and money.
If you would like to schedule your dental checkup with Dr. Shiloh Lindsay, contact our office, and we will be more than happy to help.
