With the advent of alternative orthodontic treatments, more and more individuals are choosing the convenient treatment method of clear braces to solve minor to moderate levels of misalignment. But did you know that there were other options to choose from outside of Invisalign? While they are the first manufacturer to capitalize on alternative methods for straightening teeth, many other companies have been developing their own clear braces in Fort Collins in order to cater to unique patient needs.

To learn the difference between the two, keep reading!

What is Smart Moves?

Similar to Invisalign, Smart Moves caters to those who want to straighten teeth without the use of metal brackets and wires, especially if they only have mild to moderate levels of misalignment. They also work to shift teeth through small amounts of gentle force applied over time. The biggest difference between the two treatments is that Smart Moves is specifically catered to fixing teeth that are visible in your smile.

Smart Moves will still fix crooked, crowded or gapped teeth with relative ease. However, focusing only on aesthetics rather than your bite makes your overall treatment much quicker in comparison. In fact, the average treatment time for Smart Moves is around one year.

How Does Smart Moves Compare to Invisalign?

So what are the key differences you’ll need to keep in mind when choosing your clear braces option? Because Smart Moves takes less time to complete, the overall cost of treatment is much lower than Invisalign. Furthermore, Smart Moves uses both soft and hard aligners to shift teeth. If you want to focus mainly on teeth visible in your smile, especially front teeth, you’ll be happy to learn that Smart Moves specifically caters to front teeth.

With that said, Smart Move braces are not designed to shift back teeth. Depending on the severity of your condition, you may need to resort to traditional braces if you have significant crowding or misalignment in back teeth. Ask the dentist which option they think would work best for your case.

What Does Treatment Entail?

If a dentist decides that Smart Moves can help you address your misaligned teeth, they’ll talk you through each step of the process and provide expectations for each stage of treatment.

Aligners should be worn at all times except when drinking, practicing oral care, and playing contact sports, just like Invisalign. You’ll also need to clean them regularly to prevent plaque buildup and staining of the product themselves. This involves brushing them with a dedicated toothbrush as well as using a non-abrasive toothpaste and denture cleaner for soaking. Never expose them to hot water as this can permanently warp their shape.
