Fort Collins dentistWhat did that blog title just say? I can get a dental crown in one day?! If this surprises you then Dr. Lindsey and her team at Aspen Dental Care want to tell you about the E4D System. This advanced technology allows us to design, build and place a dental crown as well as many other tooth restorations in a single visit with your Fort Collins dentist. Read on to find out how we can repair a severely decayed or otherwise damaged tooth with a same day crown.

Traditional Crowns vs. Same Day Crowns in Fort Collins

You’re probably remembering that placing a dental crown has traditionally required two visits with the dentist. At the first appointment, your dentist would prepare the tooth, take an impression and put a temporary crown in place. Then, about two weeks later when the permanent crown was ready, you’d return to the dentist to have that crown cemented to your tooth.

The E4D System allows us to condense all of those steps into a single appointment that usually last only a couple of hours. And not only does this advanced system save you time, but you also won’t have to endure the discomfort of a mouthful of dental impression material that always makes some of our patients gag.

E4D’s Components

The reason a molded dental impression isn’t necessary is because the E4D System comes with a digital camera that captures a virtual image of the tooth that needs repair. This clear and detailed image is then transferred to E4D’s advanced computer system that turns this image into a virtual model of your tooth. This model includes the correct size, shape and color of your same day crown in Fort Collins. Once this step is completed, the milling unit takes over. Based on the computer’s design, the milling unit carves your crown from a single block of porcelain. The process is usually completed in less than 30 minutes.

Dr. Lindsey will check the fit and finish of your new crown before bonding it into place. If necessary, she can make minor adjustments with hand instruments. For the most part, however, same day crowns with the E4D System need very little alteration and are ready to be cemented over your tooth immediately upon completion.
