Face Your Fears with Sedation Dentistry!
July 10, 2014
Although many dentists would love for every person to enjoy going to the dentist, the reality is that many people feel quite the opposite. Having a fear of the dentist is a common fear many people face, and it can deter them from getting the much needed dental work they need done accomplished. Though it may seem like a helpless situation, there is a way Dr. Shiloh Lindsey can help those patients who have a fear of the dentist. By offering sedation dentistry to her patients, Dr. Lindsey is able to keep her patients cool, calm, and collected.
There are two ways Dr. Lindsey is able to help with your dental fears. The first one is with oral conscious sedation. With this option, our patients simply take medication at the predetermined time before your appointment, and they will be able to experience relaxation. You may become so relaxed that you will fall asleep during your appointment! Oral sedation is also good for patients who have a sensitive gag reflex or those who have neck and back problems, and therefore do not sit comfortably in a dentist’s chair. With this form of sedation, it is very important to have someone you trust drive you to and from your appointment, as the effects of the sedative may still be in effect after your dental work is performed.
The second option is nitrous oxide (laughing gas). With this, we simply put a mask over your face before your dental work commences, and you will inhale a nitrous oxide and oxygen blend, and with time, you will feel no pain or anxiety! Dr. Lindsey will be able to effectively work on your smile during this time, and you will not feel a thing! When your work is done, we simply remove the mask, and the effects of the sedation wear off!
