Dr. Shiloh Lindsey Can Help with Your Gum Disease
May 13, 2014
With many things in life, in order to have a healthy result, it is important to have a healthy foundation. Many people think as long as their teeth are straight, aligned, and bright, that they are healthy. Unfortunately for your smile, not enough attention is paid to your gums, which are one of the most important aspects of a healthy smile. Dr. Shiloh Lindsey knows how important your gums are to a healthy smile, which is why she offers periodontal therapy to her patients.
Periodontal disease affects over 80% of the population, which makes it one of the most common diseases facing the population. One thing that may be shocking is that many people may not even be aware that they are living with periodontal disease, subjecting their gums to continuous infection and deterioration. A few of the most common warning signs that you may have periodontal disease are swollen gums, tenderness, gums that bleed when you brush or floss, and loose teeth. If periodontal disease goes untreated, it can lead to an increased risk in stroke, heart disease, dementia, and more.
When you come in for your appointment with Dr. Lindsey, she will first handle your periodontal disease with scaling and root planing. This allows her to remove the plaque and tartar from below your gum line and, therefore, removing all of the harmful bacteria in areas that your toothbrush and flossing cannot reach. We will also smooth the root surfaces, which makes it more difficult for tartar to develop on your smile. We will give you some antibiotics and then end the appointment with simple instructions and tips on how to better care for your gums. If you’re interested in how Dr. Shiloh Lindsey is able to help you with your periodontal disease, make an appointment at our office, and we’d be more than happy to help.
