Periodontal Therapy at Aspen Dental Care
January 15, 2014
At Aspen Dental Care, we not only make your teeth a high priority, but your gums as well. Many people that only their teeth matters in regards to their oral health, but that can’t be further from the truth. For a truly healthy smile, you have to have healthy gums, which is why we offer periodontal therapy for our patients.
As part of our family dentistry practice, we make it a top priority to make sure your gums are as healthy as possible. Surprisingly, more than 80% of the population has some form of gum disease. Though some may think it’s not a big deal, gum disease can lead to more serious problems down the road if not taken care of, like heart disease, bone deterioration, and tooth loss. The good thing about gum disease, however, is that it’s completely reversible if caught early. It is important to have your bi-annual dental checkup, so Dr. Lindsey can keep an eye on your mouth, making sure nothing harmful comes your way.
Our periodontal therapy begins with a visit to Dr. Lindsey, and he will be able to assess the current state of your smile and gums. We will perform scaling and root-planing of the gums, that way we can remove the bacterium that causes harm. Some things you can do is floss and brush your teeth at least twice a day. If you’re not able to brush your teeth between meals, a great option is to chew gum, as it catches leftover food particles as well as produces saliva, which breaks food particles down.
Some signs of periodontal disease are tenderness of the gums. Also, if your gums are swollen or bleed when you brush your teeth, contact our office immediately so we will be able to assist you as soon as possible.
